Who We Are: The Black Male Initiative at SUNY Empire

A Community of Support, Growth, and Leadership

At SUNY Empire, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space where students can engage in meaningful dialogue, access resources, and build networks that empower their academic and personal success. The Black Male Initiative (BMI) is a community-focused effort designed to support students interested in exploring and addressing issues that impact Black men in higher education and beyond.

Our Purpose

The BMI is dedicated to fostering academic excellence, professional development, and personal growth by:

  • Creating a Supportive Learning Environment – We provide mentorship, peer networking, and academic support to help students navigate their college experience with confidence.
  • Encouraging Leadership and Civic Engagement – Through workshops, leadership development programs, and service-learning opportunities, we empower students to become change-makers in their communities.
  • Facilitating Meaningful Conversations – We host discussions on topics that impact Black men, including career advancement, social justice, health and wellness, and financial literacy.
  • Building Bridges Across Communities – BMI fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment, welcoming all students who seek to support and engage in these conversations.

Who Can Join?

BMI is open to all students who are committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable academic experience. Whether you are looking for mentorship, professional networking, or a place to engage in discussions about the Black male experience, we invite you to be a part!
